- KCB, KDF and government agencies launched a mortgage scheme for over 50,000 military officers.
- The programme will finance home purchases, construction, renovations and affordable housing.
- KDF says the initiative will boost troop welfare through increased home ownership.
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the Civil Servants Housing Scheme Fund and the Affordable Housing Board have signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to roll out a mortgage scheme for military officers.
The scheme will offer loans to over 50,000 KDF officers to help them own homes or access affordable housing.
The financing framework will let KDF members buy, build, or renovate homes, buy land for construction, refinance existing mortgages, access equity for housing development, or buy units under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.
KCB Bank Kenya will administer the mortgage fund, lead awareness and sensitisation campaigns, and offer financing solutions designed to meet the housing needs of military personnel and their families across the country.

Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, presided over the launch. He described the agreement as a significant milestone in the KDF’s ongoing commitment to improving the welfare and homeownership opportunities of its personnel.
“Making sacrifices is an essential part of military service. Our personnel serve wherever duty calls, often in challenging conditions and away from their families. Caring for our troops is a vital aspect of military readiness, not something separate from it. That is why providing adequate housing is one of the clearest ways we fulfil that responsibility,” Kahariri stated.
Kahariri said the programme would enhance the welfare of military personnel by promoting stable home ownership. He added that secure housing gives families peace of mind and lets service members focus on their operational duties without the burden of housing uncertainty.
The CDF also thanked KCB Bank and the State Department for Housing and Urban Development for committing to a programme that directly benefits military personnel households.
