Kenya sends first 54 tonnes of macadamia nuts to China

Kenya has shipped 54 tonnes of macadamia nuts to Hunan Province in China, marking the first batch of such exports to the region this year. The consignment is part of the government’s plan to increase macadamia shipments to the Chinese market, which is expected to reach 2,000 tonnes by the end of 2025.

The delivery also represents the first nut products imported from Africa into Hunan Province in 2025, according to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The move comes amid growing demand for macadamia nuts in China, offering Kenya access to a market of more than one billion people.

Kenya is the world’s third largest producer of macadamia nuts and is seeking to expand sales of both raw in-shell and processed nuts. The country’s engagement with China on agricultural exports aligns with wider trade growth between the two nations.
