- Kiambu launches SACCO for 3,156 community health promoters.
- County commits Ksh25 million to support the society.
- Promoters encouraged to save and access affordable loans.
Community health promoters (CHPs) in Kiambu County now have a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation (SACCO) of their own, launched to help them save, borrow at affordable rates and invest in income-generating activities.
The society brings together all 3,156 promoters in the county, who form the first link between households and health facilities. It is designed to give them a firm financial footing and to build a culture of saving among them.
Governor Kimani Wamatangi presided over the launch and said the county would back the SACCO with Ksh25 million, released in phases. The first instalment of Ksh5 million has already been paid into the society’s account, and a further Ksh5 million will be deposited every year. He added that the SACCO would be anchored in the Community Health Promoters Bill.
