Kisii Youth Bunge Sacco chairman Dr. Asha Moronya has urged young people in the county to venture into agriculture, describing it as one of the most profitable opportunities currently available.

Speaking to Sacco members, Dr. Moronya challenged the perception that farming is outdated, saying agriculture should instead be viewed as a viable business venture. He noted that with proper planning, training, and access to markets, farming can generate better returns than many white-collar jobs while also creating employment and improving food security in the region.

He encouraged members to take advantage of low-interest loans offered by the Sacco, explaining that the institution benefits from World Bank grants aimed at helping unemployed graduates start self-employment ventures. According to him, the grants enable the Sacco to maintain affordable lending rates, allowing more young people to access capital without being burdened by high borrowing costs.

Dr. Moronya said the Sacco has introduced several loan products tailored to different needs. These include agricultural loans for purchasing seeds, fertilizer, livestock, and farm equipment, as well as business and start-up loans for youth seeking to establish small enterprises.

He added that the Sacco also provides development loans for expanding existing businesses and projects, emergency and consolidation loans for urgent financial needs, and education loans to support further studies and skills training. He urged members to visit the Sacco offices for more information on the requirements and interest rates attached to each loan product.

Noting that many young people have already benefited from the Sacco’s financial support, Dr. Moronya encouraged members to invite more youths to join so they too can access funding to improve their livelihoods and support their families.
