- Kisumu National Show will host a record 200 exhibitors from 22 to 26 July.
- The rebranded event will showcase climate smart agriculture, innovation and trade.
- Organisers have assured security and a wide range of exhibitions and arena events.
Preparations for this year’s Kisumu National Show are now complete, with officials reporting that the event will attract a record 200 exhibitors this year. Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Kisumu branch chairperson Rose Omondi said that number is the highest ever recorded in recent years.
Speaking at the show venue in the Mamboleo area, Omondi attributed the impressive response to publicity and proper coordination among stakeholders, including the county government of Kisumu, where Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o is the patron. She said exhibitions ranging from research to innovations will be the hallmark of the event, which opens its doors to the public on 22 July and runs to 26 July, with exhibitors showcasing their items.
The Chairperson said the show has been rebranded and is now a national event. She said a number of exhibitors from government ministries, parastatals and county assemblies, alongside exhibitors from neighbouring countries, are expected at the event.
Omondi said they also expect learning institutions such as universities and colleges, together with schools from other counties. She said they are at the moment talking to more exhibitors from Bomet, Vihiga, Kakamega and other adjacent regions.
The Chairperson said this year’s theme is “Promoting climate smart agriculture and trade initiatives for sustainable economic growth.” Omondi said they expect to see new innovations, especially in agriculture and industry, going forward.

Over the years, Omondi said, the show has been a platform to showcase local talent, innovation, agriculture and enterprise, while also bringing the community together. However, she pointed out that the show has faced challenges in recent years, especially during the pandemic, and has struggled to regain its former glory, adding that it is only a mad person who does the same thing repeatedly and expects different results.
In recognition of this, Omondi said the Society has decided to adopt a fresh approach, coupled with a new strategy and a renewed sense of purpose.
Kisumu county commissioner Mohamed Mwabudzo assured that there will be adequate security during the event. The commissioner, who also toured a number of selected stands, called on members of the public to attend the show in large numbers. “The show provides a fertile ground where young people can learn a lot and even showcase their talent,” he said.
Several tertiary institutions are this year expected to exhibit at the annual event. Apart from the exhibitions, there will be arena events such as tug of war, various choirs and bands from the forces.
