Cotton Farmers in Mpeketoni, Lamu County have been urged to join Sacco’s in large numbers and invest heavily and in order to get loans to maximize Cotton crop production in the region.

Speaking to the Sacco Review from Lamu town recently, Lamu county Cooperative Auditor, Mr. Nickson Baya stated the area has the potential to produce high quality Cotton not only in the county but the entire Coast region.

The Auditor however, advised Cotton farmers in the area to work hard and maximize Cotton Crop Production since it has a ready market.

“Mpeketoni had a cotton Ginnery where farmers used to sell their Cotton produce and get money, unfortunately the Ginnery collapsed many years ago due to poor Management.” Baya said.

He disclosed that currently Cotton farmers sell their cotton at Makueni Ginnery in Makueni County.

He also said Makueni Ginnery officials visit Mpeketoni Area every cotton harvesting season to buy Cotton from farmers for processing.
