- Two Kenyan Saccos have earned places on a major technology recognition list.
- Digital transformation is gaining prominence as financial co-operatives compete to improve member experiences.
- The industry is awaiting the final announcement that will determine this year’s recognised organisations.
Mwalimu National DT SACCO and Mhasibu DT SACCO have secured places on the CIO100 Awards 2026 list, placing the two Kenyan deposit-taking Saccos among organisations recognised for their use of technology and digital transformation.
Mwalimu National announced its inclusion in the Top 100 Organisations list, describing the recognition as a reflection of its investment in innovation, digital growth and member experience. Mhasibu DT SACCO has also made the list.
The recognition comes as Kenya records a strong presence in the 2026 CIO100 Awards shortlist, which features organisations from 10 countries: Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, South Africa, Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi, Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom. Other Kenyan organisations in contention include Safaricom, M-Pesa Africa, Equity Group, Kenya Airways and KenGen.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
Organised by CIO Africa by dx5, the awards recognise organisations using technology to improve operations, address business challenges and enhance customer experiences. The 2026 event will take place from November 25 to 27, 2026, at Diamonds Leisure Beach and Golf Resort in Diani, where the final awards will be announced.
For the Sacco sector, the inclusion of Mwalimu National and Mhasibu highlights the growing relevance of digital capabilities in a financial services industry where technology increasingly shapes how members access and experience services.
