Ndarugu Dairy Farmers Co-operative Society in Kiambu County has received a 5,000-litre milk cooler from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.
The machine was handed over by Principal Secretary State Department for Livestock Development Jonathan Mueke said the group is among 230 farmer cooperatives across Kenya benefiting from the ongoing national rollout of milk cooling equipment under Phase II of the Dairy Value Chain Support Programme (DVCSP).
The PS urged all beneficiary cooperatives to adopt sustainable practices to maximize the utility and profitability of the coolers.
During Phase I of the programme (2017–2022), 350 milk coolers were distributed across 38 counties, the machines contributed to expansion of milk handling capacity of cooperatives. Phase II aims to scale up the initiative to 40 counties, providing coolers with capacities ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 litres.

This initiative is part of a broader government agenda to modernize the dairy sector in the country, empower farmers, and strengthen national food and nutrition security.
Kenya’s dairy industry contributes 4% to the country’s GDP and supports over 2 million livelihoods. The government is investing in key infrastructure, such as bulk milk coolers, to enhance milk aggregation, boost quality control, and improve farmers’ access to lucrative markets.
