NewFortis Sacco has amended its bylaws to introduce delegates, champions and agencies for the first time in its 50-year history, following a Special General Meeting (SGM) held at the Nyeri Cultural Centre Hall.
Board chairman John Githinji Nduru said the changes were approved after extensive consultations with members across Nyeri, Nairobi, Kiambu, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Nakuru, other sub-counties and the diaspora.
He said the Sacco had gone round educating members on the proposed changes at their request, particularly on the introduction of delegates, champions and agency banking.
“They wanted to understand the issues of delegates, champions and also agency, which we are introducing for the first time since the inception of this Sacco 50 years ago,” he said.
According to Nduru, members across the Sacco’s regions, including those in the diaspora and areas such as Narok, Nairobi, Kiambu, Laikipia, Nyandarua and Nakuru, actively participated in the consultations.
“They were able to give us their views, which now we went and consolidated,” he said.
The SGM was convened to formally address those views and align them with the Sacco’s bylaws.
“We came here to change our bylaws so that we can accommodate the issues of delegates, and champions, and even agencies that will help us now to expand and grow our business,” Nduru said.

The introduction of a delegate system is expected to strengthen member representation across NewFortis Sacco’s wide geographical reach, while the champions initiative aims to boost grassroots engagement and awareness. Agency banking, meanwhile, is set to improve accessibility for members in remote and diaspora-based locations.
The bylaw amendments mark a significant milestone for the Sacco, which has operated for five decades without these structures. Leadership say the changes position NewFortis to expand its membership base and grow its business in line with evolving member needs.
