Pamela Wanyanja, the outgoing Cooperatives Officer for Eldama Ravine and Mogotio regions, was honoured during the International Day of Cooperatives celebrations in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, as she prepares to retire.

Wanyanja began her public service career in Kericho County at the age of 26, before transferring to Baringo County. Over her decades long career, she spearheaded the establishment of over 200 cooperative societies, driven by relentless training, community mobilisation and cooperative education.

Boresha Deposit Taking (DT) Sacco Immediate Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jacob Mengich, HSC, paid tribute to her contribution. “Boresha DT Sacco recognises the massive contributions of Pamela Wanyanja to our growth,” he said. “Her work went beyond mere numbers. She shifted mindsets, mobilising the masses to build and manage highly efficient cooperatives. We wish her the very best in her well-deserved retirement.”

The tribute came as Boresha DT Sacco used the event to announce it has crossed the Ksh 15 billion mark in asset value, alongside a loan portfolio worth Ksh 12 billion. Mengich told Sacco Review that membership now stands at 93,000, up from previous years.

He attributed the growth to strong service delivery focused on member needs, growing trust in the institution’s stability and digital transformation through expanded mobile banking platforms.

Established in 1976, Boresha DT Sacco continues to position itself as a leading financial service provider in the region.

The event brought together over 100 Saccos from Baringo and Nakuru counties, held under the global theme “Cooperatives for a peaceful world.”

Baringo Senator Vincent Kiprono Chemitei also addressed the gathering, urging local Saccos to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the county administration. He said such partnerships would ensure value added cooperative products, such as locally processed milk and bottled water, are bought and consumed directly by the county government, creating a circular economy that benefits local farmers and savers.
