Police officers told to invest in land

By James Wakahiu

Police officers have been advised to invest in land which is a safe investment for them as it does not require a lot of time.
Thika West OCPD Willy Simba speaking to his officers during an investment sensitisation forum recently said that due to the nature of their work police officers don’t have time to invest in other business and buying land is a safe bet for them.
“We are telling our officers that even as they work they should be putting their money into good use so that when they retire they don’t get the shock of their life as they realise the rest of the country has moved on while they were busy in service”, he explained.
He said that this is the first time that a Sacco is coming to them at the police station adding that they are honored and look forward to the continued support and partnership.
“The only thing we are asking is if the plots are genuine or we will buy the plots and start engaging in cases, we don’t want to welcome a visitor then we start engaging in numerous court cases like we have seen with other land buying agencies,” said Simba.
Urithi Premier Sacco Chairman Pius Thuku assured the police officers that they engage in genuine land sale.
Thuku said that this is part of their Co-operate Social Responsibility (CSR) which is focused on the police officers and they are giving them umbrellas.
“At times the police officers work under harsh weather conditions while controlling traffic in the scorching sun or during the rain and we saw it is good to give them the umbrellas to protect them from the harsh weather conditions,” explained Thuku.
Thuku said that they also saw it important to educate the police officers on what opportunities there are to save in Saccos which can buy for them land and other property which will help them achieve their dreams in life.
He said that they will take the initiative to Makongeni and Juja police stations and will proceed to other stations later.
