The Committee also sought clarity on how the Board is addressing aflatoxin risks, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and preparing to mitigate the impact of climate shocks on grain availability in the country.

They also inquired  whether the country’s current reserves meet the FAO benchmark of at least four to six months of national consumption, and how the Board intends to close the existing shortfall.

The Committee will proceed to Trans Nzoia County, where it will continue its oversight mission with a visit to the Kenya Seed Company to assess seed production, distribution, and the company’s role in enhancing farmer productivity and national food security.

Senators present during the visit included Catherine Mumma (Nominated) and Alexander Munyi Mundigi (Embu).
