Taita Taveta County has showcased its growing agricultural and livestock potential after scooping more than 10 awards at the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Mombasa International Show.
The county delivered an impressive performance in the livestock category, emerging among the top performers after winning prestigious awards in dairy, beef, goats and poultry categories.
Maranu Farm, owned by Herman Mbogho from Nyache in Wumingu/Kishushe Ward, emerged as the biggest winner after taking home four major awards. The farm won best overall cow of the show, champion dairy Friesian cow, champion dairy crosses cow in the small-scale category and best heifer of the show over 18 months.
Kishushe Cooperative Ranch also performed strongly, winning the champion fatstock award, further highlighting the potential of livestock farming in the county.

In the meat goat category, Fatharstar Chaddy won best overall meat goat of the show, while Josephat Mwamburi emerged champion in both the ornamental Brahma and guinea fowl categories. Gibson Mwandigha also claimed the best overall cock of the show award.
Taita Taveta also excelled in the on-farm and dairy section, emerging as the county with the most points in legumes. Additionally, Taveta Sub-County was recognised as the best sub-county overall.
Overall, the strong performance has been hailed as a reflection of the growing capacity of farmers, livestock keepers and agribusiness players in Taita Taveta to adopt improved breeds and modern farming practices.
The achievements also underscore the county government’s efforts to promote agricultural productivity, value addition and commercial farming as key drivers of food security and household incomes.
