Uasin Gishu county fish farmers urged to form cooperatives

Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii,

Uasin Gishu fish farmers have been urged to form Cooperative Societies to increase their fish profit and productivity.

Speaking during the distribution of feed to the fish farmers in the region, Uasin Gishu Livestock and Fisheries Chief Officer Nixon Cheplong said the farmers are not doing well since they have not formed cooperatives.

The chief officer also said the cooperative societies will help them leverage resources and enhance profitability.

The county government distributed fingerlings to ensure farmers have quality stock for their fish farms.

This is part of the efforts to promote aquaculture in the region while empowering local fish farmers.

Mr. Nixon’s counterpart who is county fisheries director Edna Kemei said farmers will get training and be helped to make profit. She also said the government is committed to fostering sustainable agriculture.
