Women in Kisii County have revived Wimanet Sacco after six years of dormancy to empower themselves economically.
Sacco Charlady Jane Matiabe appealed to women small scale traders to join the Sacco, save and access loans to boost their businesses and lives.
“Members save Ksh20 daily and qualify for loans three times their savings,” she said.
Speaking during the Sacco launch at Kisii Sports Club, Matiabe pledged to spearhead the Sacco to greater heights.
She urged Governor Simba Arati and President William Ruto to support the Sacco for it to prosper.
Flanked by her deputy Judith Mong’are, the chair stated that they will not allow politicians to infiltrate and politicize the Sacco hence derail its operations.
Former Kisii county Deputy Governor Joash Maangi lauded the women for the initiative and promised to mobilize other leaders to support the society.
He said the society’s revival was long overdue.
Members of Kisii county assembly like Bouse Mairura ( Masimba), Ismael Bosire ( Bogiakumu), Jared Masieka ( Kegogi) Amos Mokaya ( Nyatieko), Joseph Oyagi ( Getenga) and Dolvine Bwari and Ednah Kwamboka pledged to mobilize their family members join the Sacco.
