Youth have a reason to smile after Grassroots Organizations Operating Together in Sisterhood (GROOTS) Kenya empowered over 21,000 of them in all 47 counties to start their own businesses.
The amount the NGO gave was Ksh3 million.
GROOTS Kenya Director Rael Kagoiya, speaking at Nakuru ATC during The International Day for the Youth attended by over 2,000 youth, said that the organisation seeks to address the lack of grassroots women and youth in development and decision making forums that affect them and their communities.
She added that the organisation also seeks to empower the youth and women in grassroots level by financing them to upgrade their businesses, especially small and medium enterprises.
“GROOTS Kenya views grassroots women and youth as effective agents and believes that empowering them can alter perceptions, attitude, and contrasting with traditional views that exclude them from decision-making spaces,” said Kagoiya.
