The Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives, Micro Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Wycliffe Oparanya and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa have encouraged farmers in Kakamega County to embrace coffee farming as a way of transforming their livelihoods and boosting the county’s economy.
The two leaders made the appeal while leading a coffee farming and agronomy sensitization forum held in Ikolomani and Butere Constituencies.
The event brought together several lawmakers from the county and was aimed at promoting coffee as a viable cash crop for the region.

CS Oparanya emphasized that his ministry, in collaboration with other stakeholders, is rolling out nationwide sensitization campaigns to encourage farmers to venture into coffee farming.
He noted that with proper support and training, coffee has the potential to uplift rural households by providing a steady source of income.
Governor Barasa echoed the sentiments, urging local farmers to take advantage of the county government’s agricultural programs and support systems tailored to revitalize the coffee sector.
