TNT SACCO holds financial literacy workshop ahead of 50th anniversary

Financial management expert FCPA Dan Githinji

TNT SACCO has held a Members Empowerment Workshop aimed at strengthening financial literacy among its members as the cooperative prepares to mark its 50th anniversary next year.

The workshop, themed “Saving for Investment,” brought together members from Turkana, Kachibora, Kiminini and Endebess, focusing on savings discipline, investment planning and long-term wealth creation.

Financial management expert FCPA Dan Githinji led the sessions, guiding members on practical approaches to saving, responsible borrowing and investment decision-making. Discussions centred on the five pillars of wealth management, accumulation, preservation, utilization, protection and wealth transfer.

Members were advised to borrow prudently and prioritize loans for income-generating assets rather than consumptive expenses. The forum also emphasized income diversification through entrepreneurial skills such as agribusiness and trade.

Participants were further encouraged to adopt structured budgeting practices, including saving at least 20 per cent of income and reinvesting dividends to grow share capital.

TNT SACCO Chairman Evans Sichangi said the cooperative was strengthening liquidity management and working to ensure timely pension payments. Retirees attending the forum called for increased representation in SACCO leadership, proposing bylaw amendments to enhance their participation.

The workshop formed part of TNT SACCO’s ongoing efforts to empower members as it approaches its golden jubilee milestone.
