The Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) has kicked off a grower registration exercise that will run from today, May 25, to June 1, 2026, paving the way for Grower Representative Elections scheduled for June 25, 2026.
The elections, anchored in the Sugar Act No. 11 of 2024, will allow sugarcane growers across Kenya’s sugar catchment areas to elect their own representatives to sit on the Board, marking a significant step toward deepening farmer participation in the governance of the sugar sector.
Registration is being conducted in person at designated polling centres across all sugar-growing regions. The exercise is powered by the Mkulima OnBoard platform, the official Kenya Sugar Board system designed to support transparent, secure and credible grower registration ahead of the polls.
To be eligible, a grower must present a valid national identification document or passport, as well as proof of sugarcane payment, supply statements or a current permit for at least one month within the 24 months before the election date.

For farmers in the Coastal Catchment Area, verification may alternatively be done through cane delivery records, supply contracts or farmer account details where applicable.
The Board has urged all eligible sugarcane growers to complete their registration within the set window, warning that only registered growers will be allowed to vote in the June 25 elections.
Growers and stakeholders seeking more information or wishing to locate their designated polling centre have been directed to visit the Kenya Sugar Board website and the Mkulima OnBoard platform, or to follow the Board’s official social media pages for updates.
