  • Kisii Sacco leaders and youth members attend a national agriculture summit to learn new farming and business strategies.
  • Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo urges the delegation to share lessons and build investment networks back home.
  • Gusii Youth Bunge Sacco seeks new opportunities to expand its reach and support youth-led agribusiness.

Kisii Youth Bunge Sacco chairman Dr. Asha Moronya is among 120 members from Kisii County attending the ongoing National Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation Summit in Nairobi.

Moronya, a finance and business expert, is leading 19 other members from various Saccos in the county. They are there to showcase their experiences to Saccos from across the country and beyond its borders, and to learn from them for the benefit of Kisii County’s prosperity.

When he flagged off the team, Kisii County Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo told them to go, learn and return to teach others about crop and livestock husbandry, good stewardship in business and visionary planning. He said this would support the country’s food efficiency and create jobs for the youth.

Obebo, who represented Governor Simba Arati, urged the youth to be good ambassadors and to build economic networks with people across the country. The aim, he said, is to open up the Kisii region to more investors.

“Go and be good letters to this County. Show the potential of great wealthy and patriotic and knowledgeable youths to tap these resources,” he said.

Moronya said he will use the opportunity to discover strategies for expanding Youth Bunge Sacco into a national bank soon.

The summit is being held from October 7 to 9, 2026, at the Jamhuri Park ASK Showground in Nairobi, with the final day today at State House. Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki officially opened it. It has brought together farmers, cooperative leaders, youth innovators and development partners.

Stakeholders and organisers say such meetings matter because they give farmers, cooperatives, youth groups, Saccos, county governments and investors a platform. There, they can share knowledge, showcase innovations and learn best practices in crop and livestock production.

They add that the summit helps to strengthen food security, create markets for farm produce and promote value addition. It also improves access to affordable finance through Saccos and banks, and introduces modern farming technologies such as precision farming and climate smart agriculture. In addition, it builds networks among counties, creates job opportunities for youth and women, and attracts investors to the agricultural sector.

For Kisii County, attending the summit is expected to open up the region to more investors. It is also expected to boost agribusiness through the Youth Bunge Sacco model.

Kisii County Youth Bunge Sacco, now Gusii Youth Bunge Sacco Limited, is the financial wing of the Kisii County Youth Development Forum, formed in 2012. It started with a capital base of over Ksh40 million and has grown to over Ksh70 million. It now has over 8,000 members drawn from 65 wards in Kisii and Nyamira counties.

The Sacco offers savings, affordable agricultural loans, business loans and emergency loans. It has also partnered with USAID and the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO) to train youth in business skills and proposal writing.
