The Cooperative Movement Supervisory Committee and Board of Directors have been urged  to work closely to ensure they improve the status of their cooperative movement for the benefit of members and delegates.

This was said by Molo Sub County Cooperative Officer Harun Muraya, who said that both supervisory committee and board of directors should perform their role in line with the laws and regulations governing cooperatives and non should over-control another as each of has specific role to play to safe guard the resources of their cooperative movement.

Speaking at Elburgon during the 2nd Annual General Meeting of Elburgon Maendeleo Sacco ,Muraya said some supervisory committee overperform their mandate by opposing every good idea and proposal from the board of directors, a situation he said creates a bad picture to members.

“Some committee chairperson opposes every good idea from the board of directors,we urged both of them to operate  within the their role and laws governing the sector to safeguard the hardly earned resources from members,” he said

He said the supervisory committee are the watchdog of cooperative movement; their role is to put the board on toes and work with them closely to ensure the management use the resources well for the benefit of the society.

Muraya urged the Board of Directors to also listen to critical concerned raised by the Supervisory Committee and correct where they feel should be addressed to ensure Sacco resources are used well.

He also used that opportunity to urged them to addressed their managerial different in the boardroom in the presence of officer from Cooperative office in accordance with the laws.

“The issues of managerial differences between the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee should be addressed in the board room in the presence of officer from Cooperative office to streamline all the ethical issues and guidelines governing Cooperative Movement. Our role as cooperative officers is to ensure the growth of Cooperative societies and the best beneficiary of services should be all members who area bonafide investors,” said Muraya.

He urged the committee to stop discouraging members who are investors of the cooperative movement.

“Supervisory Committee members are not allowed to raise allegations of misuse of fund to members without adequate evidence; this will discourage members from investing  in their respective SACCOs; in case of any allegations the right channel should be used to ensure the law take its course and the resources of members are safeguarded,” said Muyara.
