Embrace mixed farming, Embu farmers urged

By Kamundia Muriithi.

Embu farmers have been urged to embrace mixed farming to increase earnings.
The call was made by Kimbu Wendo Group chairlady, Niceta Rwamba when she addressed members on the group in Gitare area.
Driven by a collective zeal to reap decent profits from their small parcels of lands, about 40 folks in Gitare area of Mbiruri Parish, Embu County have joined hands to start smart small agribusinesses, Rwamba told Sacco Review.
“Our members undertake the projects individually at their farms but we sell as a group. Selling together gives us a collective bargaining power in a competitive market dominated by middlemen, more so in case of bananas,” says Niceta Rwamba, their chairlady.
The members of Kimbu Wendo Group have successfully ventured into banana farming, dairy farming, goat keeping, bee keeping and chicken rearing at their small holder plots.
