Speaking to journalists after a surprise visit to the sugar miller, Barasa reiterated the government’s pledge to provide required farming inputs to farmers, adding that the county government will also chip in to provide where there are shortages.

The County chief also disclosed that there is a Proposed Bill set to be tabled in Parliament that seeks to alleviate the company’s financial burden by canceling debts owed by the miller amounting to approximately Ksh33 billion.

Operations Manager Stephen Kirumba highlighted that the company has hired officers to train farmers and promote sugarcane growing in the county and beyond.

Barasa emphasized the significance of collective efforts in revitalizing the sugarcane industry, assuring the community of comprehensive support.

The programme signals a hopeful resurgence for Mumias Sugar Company and underscores the governor’s commitment to fostering agricultural development in the region.
