Kakamega women, youth benefit as County disburses Ksh 12 Million to boost income generating projects

Women self-help groups and youth from Kakamega County are smiling after the County Government of Kakamega has disbursed Ksh 12 Million to help them boost their income generating projects.

According to the County, 120 groups of the County Youth Service and Women Empowerment  Programme (CYSWEP) in all the 60 wards and each ward which has two registered groups will receive Ksh 100,000 grants.

The grants will improve income generating projects among the youth and women groups for under the economic empowerment programme implemented by the county.

Presiding over the issuance of grants to beneficiaries of the third cohort of the CYSWEP service members, Governor Fernandes Barasa assured the self-help groups that the money is already channeled into their bank accounts

Addressing beneficiaries, Barasa noted that his administration will carry out monitoring and evaluation to the projects implemented by the groups, especially women projects in Lumakanda and youth from Mautuma areas.

He encouraged them to embark on economic activities that generate income, also warning groups against misuse of grants, saying funds are strictly for empowerment.

For the CYSWEP receiving the grants for the first time, the County boss urged elected leaders in the self-help groups to convene a meeting with members to discuss on projects that will give them more profits.

He urged them to venture in projects that will improve their livelihoods and earn something atleast every month for sustainability.

“We want you to get income, as from today we shall liaise with officers in charge of microfinance to issue loans to support projects for the growth of the economy.”  Barasa added

He also pledged to support businesses across the county through disbursement of funds which will enable traders to grow their investments.
