Machakos County is revamping its coffee sector after Governor Wavinya Ndeti championed a transformative investment under the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP).
Five coffee cooperative societies in the region have received a major boost with over Ksh 45 million in grants to revamp and modernize their operations.
The beneficiary societies include Kasinga Farmers Cooperative Society, which received Ksh 8,469,750, Kaliluni Farmers Cooperative Society with Ksh 9,030,000, Mukuyuni Farmers Cooperative Society with Ksh 8,600,000, Kilalani Farmers Cooperative Society with Ksh 9,910,000, and Kambusu Farmers Cooperative Society with Ksh 9,810,580.
“This funding will go a long way in modernizing processing facilities, boosting productivity, improving coffee quality, and ensuring better earnings for Machakos farmers,” said Governor Ndeti who spoke during the launch of Agripreneur Model at Kasinga Coffee Society in Machakos on Monday.

The Agripreneur Extension Model is a youth-driven, technology-enabled program which engages 170 trained agripreneurs to support farmers with training, data digitization, input access, and market linkages, alongside continued efforts in livestock vaccination, strengthening agricultural extension services, and modernizing the coffee sector.
The Governor hailed former Agriculture County Executive Member Catherine Mutanu for setting up the entrepreneurship groups. Mutanu has since been appointed as the Finance and Economic Planning County Executive.
Governor Wavinya said her leadership had prioritized value-chain development and farmer empowerment as a key driver of long-term economic growth in the County.
