In a groundbreaking initiative, over 1,200 Bodaboda operators in Kakamega have been transformed into entrepreneurs, thanks to the efforts of Watu Credit, an asset financing institution. This week, Watu Credit launched the “Watu Credit Clinic Project,” aimed at empowering various entrepreneurs in the Bodaboda sector across the country.
During the launch, project lead officer Duncan Bett highlighted the success of the initiative, noting that similar clinics have already taken place in counties such as Malindi, Nakuru, Kisii, and Homa Bay.
“We are here in Kakamega to deliver training, logbooks, phone services, and tracking services related to the Watu credit,” he explained. The goal is to distribute 1,200 logbooks in Kakamega alone, with plans to continue the initiative in Kitale next week.
This project is designed to bring services closer to customers, addressing the challenges they face in accessing Watu Credit’s offices due to their busy schedules. Many beneficiaries spoke about the positive impact that Watu Credit has had on their lives.

John Ndalu from Kipkaren River shared, “Since I took a motorbike from Watu Credit, my life has changed dramatically. I’ve been able to save money, pay dowry for my wife, and even buy a dairy cow that provides milk for my family and for sale. My children can now go to school without any worries.”
Similarly, Janet Nyona from West Kabras expressed her gratitude, stating that the proceeds from her loaned motorbike have enabled her to venture into cane farming, significantly improving her family’s well-being.
Isaac Musonga from Navakholo, who previously worked as a security guard, now thrives in poultry farming, thanks to the savings from his Bodaboda transport business. “We are happy as a family because we are enjoying the fruits of our labor, courtesy of Watu Credit,” he said.
This initiative not only empowers individual operators but also fosters economic growth within the community.
