Univision Sacco elects its leaders, support staff

The Kitui Town based Univision DT Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited on Saturday conducted election to elect support staff, disabled persons and Kitui County government staff delegates.

The colourful function where the Kitui County Cooperatives Director, Sammy Kasanga Musomba, was the event’s presiding officer, took place at the Kitui Teachers Training College.

Various candidates contested. In the  Kitui County government delegate elections, Jacob Mutisya Maingi garnered a total of 265 votes to defeat his two rivals Shadrack  Mbuvi Yoana (109 votes) and Phyllis Kakuthu Maithya (75 votes).

Regarding the support staff elections that had two contestants, Felix Kiema Musyimi emerged the winner with a total of 166 votes against the 130 votes of his rival Stephen Muuo Ndeti.

On the disabled persons elections, Joseph Mwendwa Muthoka managed to scoop a total of 37 votes where he defeated his sole rival Boniface Muema Makuthu who got a total of 25 votes.

Addressing the contestants and their supporters after announcing the results, the presiding officer Sammy Kasanga Musomba  thanked sacco for conducting fair and peaceful elections. “I was here today as the presiding officer for the Univision Sacco’s elections. We have conducted fair and peaceful elections. I awarded the winners some certificates. We had three categories in the elections. Everybody has won. Every person was happy. So it was a successful exercise. Be blessed a lot,” he said.

The winners also thanked their supporters for voting for them and electing them as their leaders.

While thanking his supporters, Joseph Mwendwa Muthoka promised to serve all the Univision Sacco’s disabled members.

The Univision DT Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited, formerly the Kitui Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited, was started in 1976.

The organisation currently has a total of more than 60,000 members, mostly made up of teachers.
