Rose Chepngetich has set her eyes on
making an indelible mark on the cooperative
movement in Kenya.
As CEO of Kimbilio Daima Sacco,
based at Konoin Sub-County, Bomet County,
Chepngetich says that nothing succeeds like
success. She has been at the helm of Kimbilio
Daima Sacco for the past 15 years, overcoming
all manner of obstacles and challenges,
learning from mistakes and staying above the
stormy waters.
Chepngetich has her feet firmly on the
ground and is determined to change
the fortunes of its members found in
Bomet and beyond.
“We have come a long way
to reach where we are today. It has
taken hard work and effort from
individuals, who have been selfless
and have a clear vision,” said
Chepngetich. Kimbilio Daima aims
to be the best managed and efficient
rural Sacco with the highest share
capital and deposits per member.
Kimbilio Daima Sacco was registered
in 1993 with a dozen members
who could only access BOSA.
In 1999 it opened FOSA, a year after Rose
joined the Sacco.
“I was first employed as a cashier. It was
a big opportunity for me. Working for a financial
institution was always my childhood
dream,” she says.
Young and focused, Chepngetich was
determined and hardworking and thus rose
through the ranks to CEO in 2000. The Sacco
had just opened FOSA and she was determined
to make the service successful.
“Though I was young, i employed the
right attitude and energy well and eventually
things worked alright,” she said.
With her superb management skills
and support from the board of directors and
hardworking staff, Kimbilio Daima has seen
its achievements increase, pushing the Society
from a small rented office to a modern
three-storey building. Membership has also
increased to reach more than 15,000.
The Sacco has so far disbursed loans
amounting to Sh 93 million while members
share deposits stand at Sh 124 million.
“Competition and changing financial
situations are among challenges
we face but have devised ways
of dealing with them,” said
Chepngetich.
The Society has one branch
and three outlets. Plans to
expand are underway. Farmers
form the bulk of Kimbilio
Daima members while others
are drawn from business community
and employed persons.
“Our plan is to recruit more
members, improve savings and
embrace new technology while
offering our services,” she says.
Kimbilio Daima is keen in attracting
the youth by introducing
products that suit their needs.
Since becoming CEO, Chepngetich is
having no regrets and not shying from challenges
ahead and has no issues with being a
wife and mother of four.
Born in Kipkelion, Kericho County,
Chepngetich went to Lilioch primary school
and Sosiot Girls secondary school. She later
joined Kenyatta University for a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Business and Mathematics.
She also has a Masters in Strategic Management
from Kabianga University.
