All is now set for this year’s Maa Cultural and Tourism Festival, scheduled to take place from Tuesday, November 4th to 9th at Amboseli National Park in Kajiado County.

The event will bring together members of the Maasai community from across the region to celebrate their rich heritage and traditions.

The annual festival, which showcases the Maa people’s customs, attire, songs, and dances, aims to promote unity, preserve indigenous knowledge, and highlight the cultural and economic contributions of the Maasai community to Kenya’s national identity.

Leaders and cultural custodians have confirmed their attendance, with President William Ruto expected on November 8th to lead celebrations marking the return of Amboseli National Park to the administration of the County Government of Kajiado.

The festival will feature traditional ceremonies, livestock exhibitions, cultural performances, and displays by women’s groups showcasing beadwork, traditional foods, and artifacts.

According to the organizers, this year’s theme “Preserving Culture for Unity and Development”  emphasizes the role of culture in promoting peace, tourism, and community empowerment.

Local leaders have urged the youth to take pride in their heritage, noting that the festival provides a platform to bridge the gap between generations and strengthen community bonds.

“Our culture is our pride and identity. Through this celebration, we remind ourselves of the values that bind us together as the Maa community,” said Governor Joseph ole Lenku.

Governor Lenku added that one of the key highlights of the festival will be the celebration of the handover of Amboseli Park.

He noted that the park, which serves as a game reserve, is shared between the community and wildlife, and that the local community had contributed part of their land to the reserve.

The event is expected to attract thousands of participants, including local and international visitors, cultural groups, and government representatives.
