KUSCCO Rift Valley Regional Chairman David Langat has revealed that 22 Saccos from the region have joined the umbrella association.
Speaking at Waterbuck Hotel in Nakuru City during KUSCCO’s 35th regional council meeting, Lang’at welcomed the Saccos into the union and promised to assist them prosper in their programmes.
The new members are Chemoton, Elean, Balek Dairy, Freeland, Meswo Pioneer Health, ACK Imani Talent, Nyandarua County, Mashianai Prosperity, Mau Tea Multi-purpose, Ukama Musicians, Kapyarwat Development, Arror Women Market Practitioner, Global Christians, Rongai Workshop, Pesanet, Starspy, Kapcherop Women and Immanuel ACK Njoro Saccos.
Others are: Kimungul and Kambianga Dairy FCSs, Pokot Farmers’ Cooperative and Ug Investment Cooperative.
Langat said the union has 538 member Saccos in Rift Valley compared to 516 in 2021.
“The union has trained over 2,500 board members, delegates, staff and members to equip them with relevant skills in spearheading their Saccos to the next level. We will continue to embrace a training culture for growth and sustainability, since an informed membership is critical to the development of our societies,” he said.
He also highlighted that the union shareholding grew to Ksh400.7 million from Ksh379.7 million the previous year.
“However, we still have to boost our shareholding so that as a region, we can increase our representation and have an institution with strong capital base to enhance effective service delivery,” said Langat.
KUSCCO offers products and services such as KUSCCO Mutual Assurance and Education training, Research and Consultancy and KUSCCO Housing Cooperative among other services.
The Research and Consultancy department deals with the technical and innovative aspects of SACCO business which include feasibility studies, strategic planning and development of business plans, revision of by-laws and human resource related activities.
