Kilifi cooperatives have total assets worth Ksh 12.4 billion

Kilifi county Cooperative Director Mr. James Mwasi has revealed that the region’s 294
cooperatives have total assets amounting to Ksh 12.4 billion.
Speaking to Sacco Review in his office, Mwasi went on to add that the cooperatives have
disbursed loans to members at a tune of Ksh 9.2 billion and mobilized savings worth Ksh 8.4
billion.
“The societies have a total turnover of Ksh 1.9 billion and share capital worth Ksh 600 million,”
he explained.
He went on to add that from the 294 cooperatives, 164 are active while the remaining 130 are
dormant.
He added that Kilifi county has only two deposit taking Saccos: Imarika Deposit Taking Sacco
and Lengo Deposit Taking Sacco.
“The cooperatives have a total membership of 169,000. From the number, 68 per cent are men
while the remaining 32 per cent are women.
Mr. Mwasi described Imarika DT Sacco as the largest deposit taking Sacco in Coast region with
total assets amounting to Ksh 10.4 billion.
He further added that the Sacco is also among the best performing Saccos countrywide.
