Ksh 500M required to revive giant Dairy Cooperative Society

Kilifi County Cooperative Director Mr. James Mwasi has revealed that Ksh 500 million is
required to revive the dormant giant Diary Cooperative Society (formerly Mariakani Milk
Scheme) in Kaloleni Sub County.
Mr Mwasi revealed that plans to revive the cooperative are on a priority as its revival will enable
dairy farmers in the county to boost their economic status.
Speaking to Sacco Review in his office in Kilifi town recently, Mr. Mwasi attributed poverty
among dairy farmers in the region to the collapse of the giant cooperative society.
He went on to add that 50 percent of the 130 dormant cooperatives can be revived.
He further advised county residents to join Saccos in large numbers and invest heavily to enable
them get bigger loans to accomplish their personal development projects.
“Many people have been able to implement their development projects through taking loans
from their respective Saccos,” he added.
The director revealed that four new Saccos in the county have been registered by the Cooperative
Development Ministry in the financial year starting July 2022.
