Saccos lauded for improving livelihoods

Saving and Credit Co-operatives Societies in the County have been commended for uplifting livelihoods of local people.
“I have been able to expand my business through loans from my Sacco,” said Peter Lenkupae a businessman in Maralal town.
The two major Saccos in the county- Supa and Dumisha have continually recorded growth of membership as more residents realize the benefits of joining Co-operatives.
“Our members who were once poor are now rich, retail business owners have expanded their businesses, tenants are now landlords, children are able to study up to university level and members today own vehicles,” noted Peter Irungu, Chairman Supa Sacco, during the Annual General Meeting recently..
Due to poor road network not many banks operate in Samburu County, hence many people depend on Saccos based in Maralal town.
Both Supa and Dumisha Saccos have branches in Wamba and Baragoi towns. The Saccos have been providing financial services to local pastoralists.
