Women groups advised to utilise enterprise fund well

By John Ochieng

Women groups who are benefiting from the Women Enterprise Funds have been advised to repay the loans so as to empower other women.
Prof Collette Suda, the Principal Secretary, State Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education Science and Technology said most of the women groups have not taken seriously the importance of such funds which are meant to empower them economically.
Speaking in Rongo, where she presided over the issuance of the Women Enterprise Fund cheques on behalf of Permanent Secretary in Charge of Gender and Social Services, Prof Suda called on the women in the whole country who are in groups to ensure they identify viable projects which will help them improve their living standards.
Nyanza regional co-ordinator for Women Enterprise Fund Nelson Ondiek said that despite the challenges, most women have come out and showed interest to apply for the loans adding that they still face difficulty in repaying the loans.
Cheques totalling Sh2.2 milion were issued to 12 women groups from Rongo and Awendo sub counties.
