The envoy emphasized Africa’s growing global importance, citing its youthful population, entrepreneurial energy, and the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). She said the meeting reaffirmed the continent’s position as a critical partner in shaping future global economic and climate agendas.

Amb. Mucheke lauded the Netherlands for its continued engagement with African states, particularly in areas of water technology and agricultural innovation, which stakeholders agreed would be key to unlocking climate resilience and industrial growth.

The meeting comes as the Netherlands expands cooperation with African countries under its trade and climate agenda, while AfCFTA is expected to create the world’s largest free trade area by population and GDP.

Diplomats and stakeholders present underscored the importance of partnerships that move beyond aid, focusing instead on mutual investment and knowledge exchange. They agreed that stronger ties in water management and agricultural technology could help African nations adapt to climate shocks while driving industrialisation.
