Tea farmers urged to form financial groups

By Enock Okong’o
Small scale tea farmers
from Kisii County
have been asked to
embrace table banking to
enable them mobilize resources
to educate their
children.
Saying big financial institutions
have been built
from embracing small savings
culture a Kisii businessman
Francis Ombogo
told farmers to form village
groups geared towards their
economic empowerment.
Ombogo who is Business
Studies degree holder
regretted that some
parents sat at home all the
year without saving until
January when they start
panicking after realizing
their children had been
called to join secondary
school.
“Let our parents
avoid burdening their
neighbours for funds
drive for their children’s
school fees where they
are able to do” he said.
He told parents whose
children’s KCPE results
were recently released to
ensure proper utilization
of this year’s tea bonuses
because failure to do that
will stop their children
from joining secondary
school when they reopen.
Mr. Ombogo’s sentiments
were echoed by KTDA
official, Seth Ombogo
when he addressed a group
of farmers at Nyangowa
Tea Buying Centre.
