A prominent Miraa farmer from Kinisa Amwathi in Igembe North Subcounty, Meru County is counting huge losses after his Miraa farm was set ablaze by unknown people.
The owner of the farm Kamakia Arunga said he was shocked and devastated after his 3-acre miraa farm, which a source of livelihood is for many, was reduced to ashes.
He said the loss is significant, and urged whoever is responsible to come forward.

“I have already reported the incident to the Kinisa police post and the Njuri Ncheke Ameru council of elders. I’m hopeful that they will help me uncover the truth behind this malicious act. Whoever is responsible should come forward early otherwise they will suffer the consequences later,” said Arunga.
He warned whoever set his farm on fire, to surrender within one week, if not, the elders will take traditional action which will have hash consequences to the perpetrator or perpetrators.
David Kibunja, a resident condemned the act of arson noting that there is need to live in harmony and resolve conflicts peacefully.
He urged the residents to work together to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators.
Julius Kichunge, a resident and the caretaker of the farm said he saw smoke rising from the farm as he is a neighbour, and that by the time he arrived at the scene, the fire had spread too far.
Kichunge said it was impossible to put out the fire as it was spreading very fast.
He noted that the incident was a huge loss for the owner and the community.
Will the perpetrator come forward, or will the elders take action? The community waits with bated breath.
