The Social Health Authority (SHA) has released Ksh3.4 billion to 2,048 health facilities across the country to settle verified claims under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

In a statement issued on August 21, SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mercy Mwangangi said the funds cover a range of services including inpatient care, drugs and substance abuse treatment, mental wellness, critical care and surgeries.

She further disclosed that Ksh1.09 billion has been disbursed from the Primary Health Care Fund, while an additional Ksh1.7 billion is currently being processed to clear claims for dialysis, oncology and surgical services.

“An updated list of disbursements will be published on the SHA website in due course,” Dr Mwangangi said, in a clarification meant to counter reports circulating on social media regarding allocations to specific hospitals.

Among the listed facilities, Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital in Homa Bay County received Ksh19 million between January and June 2025 for inpatient long stays and maternity services, with the hospital confirming receipt of the funds.

Dr Mwangangi reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to timely and transparent settlements, noting, “SHA remains committed to timely payments, accountability and transparency.”

The disbursement follows earlier phases in July 2025 when SHA released close to Sh3 billion for emergency, dialysis, and oncology services, with more allocations expected in the coming weeks as claims are reviewed.
